RELISA® DNA and DNA-ES*
For decades the Farr assay has been considered by many to be the “gold standard” for the detection and quantification of antibodies to dsDNA. However, the labor-intensive nature of the assay and the use of radioisotopes make the assay inconvenient and an environmental risk. As a result ELISA assays have gained acceptance.
In recent studies researchers have examined the diagnostic differences between various methods for the detection of anti-dsDNA antibodies. Data from these studies demonstrated a correlation between disease severity and antibody avidity. Also evident is that the ability to group patients into those with benign SLE and those with skin and renal symptoms depends on the assay chosen. When sera from patients with “definite” SLE were tested using ELISA, RIA and IFA, the results generally agreed. However, this was not the case for patients who did not fit the standard classification criteria for SLE or who have inactive disease. For these individuals, the correct determination of antibody status depended more heavily on the choice of assay, with the high avidity Farr assay being superior to the standard ELISA.
The Immuno Concepts RELISA® dsDNA-ES was designed to combine the best aspects of two existing methods into a single assay format. Proprietary new technology designed to closely mimic the selective Farr conditions combines the high-avidity selectivity of the Farr technique with the convenience of the ELISA format.

RELISA® ENA (extractable nuclear antigens)
The RELISA® ENA assays were designed with the proper sensitivity and specificity to help the clinician in the diagnosis of autoimmune disease. Sera from over 2,000 patients with rheumatic disease and 1,000 normal individuals were tested during the development of the RELISA® ENA Test System. Immuno Concepts compared the results to reference methods such as Ouchterlony immunodiffusion, counterimmunoelectrophoresis, other ELISA methods and Western blotting. To verify the clinical utility of the assay, the laboratory results were also compared to the clinical history and diagnosis of the patient.

RELISA® ENA Single Well Screening Kit
The RELISA® ENA Single Well Screening Kit is designed to screen patient samples for six of the most common autoantibodies. Each microtiter well is coated with Sm, RNP, SS-A, SS-B, Scl-70 and Jo-1 autoantigens. This allows the laboratory to cost effectively screen out the ENA negative patient samples prior to determining the ENA specificity on any of the company’s other RELISA® ENA Test Systems. The strips are color-coded for easy identification and feature break-away wells.
